Dream Collectors

FINE ARTS CHAMBER PLAYERS PRESENTS

The Learning Difference Zone

The LD Zone is a program about learning to read.  Performing classical music of Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss on flute, clarinet, oboe, bass, accordion and percussion instruments, Dream Collectors combines music with the magic of live theater, juggling, dancing, puppetry, creative movement, masks and costumes.  The story line involves a young dyslexic girl named Alexys who journeys into THE LD ZONE in a dream.  She can only return from her journey by reading three books: Knowledge, Self-Esteem, and Hope and Dreams.  She is confronted by the villain, the Grabsnatcher, and his band of tormentors, Intolerance, Inferiority and Ignorance, who try to snatch her books and her spirit.  Using the advice of her mentor (Albert Einstein in the form of a puppet) and her own determination, she realizes that the villains are actually her own fears.  She challenges herself to read using phonics and multi-sensory learning skills.  In order to become informed creators in this unique link between education and art, Dream Collectors participated in teacher training at the Child Development Division of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.  Issues this program will address:

 *    Identify the arts as an important mode  of self expression

*   Promote self esteem and reverence

 *  Teach compassion for others who seem different

*   Create awareness about learning   differences including dyslexia

*   Present the challenge to identify and complete   personal goals
